Five golf courses in Jeju City, and how to tie them into one itinerary

Jeju City's golf courses are not clustered in one place. Some sit just south of downtown, some climb into the mid-mountain area to the east, and some run west down into Aewol and Hangyeong-myeon. They all carry the name "Jeju City," but they lie in different directions, so getting the order wrong means driving the same road twice.

The simplest yardstick is driving time from Jeju International Airport. GolfZon County Ora is about 15 minutes, Lahenne CC and Hallasan Country Club about 25 minutes each, Tamius Golf Club about 35 minutes, and Raon Golf Club about 45 minutes. With the airport at the center, three natural branches appear: the downtown area, the eastern mid-mountain area and the west.

Elevation is another variable. Raon Golf Club is the lowest at 180 m, Lahenne CC, Hallasan Country Club and Tamius Golf Club are at 400 m, and GolfZon County Ora is at 350 m. Different elevations mean different conditions on the same day. Raon Golf Club points to its strength of sitting in lowland terrain at 130–180 m above sea level, holding an annual average of 18–20°C, which leaves it least affected by snow, fog and wind and gives it fewer closure days. Tamius Golf Club, by contrast, mentions winter gales and fog, so it is somewhat exposed to wind.

If you arrange them from the shortest driving time from the airport to the longest, the route flows in one direction. Day one is GolfZon County Ora at about 15 minutes from the airport, then Lahenne CC and Hallasan Country Club at about 25 minutes, and finally a move west to Tamius Golf Club (about 35 minutes) and Raon Golf Club (about 45 minutes).

For arrival and departure days it is safer to use a course near the airport. GolfZon County Ora sits south of the middle of downtown Jeju, with a layout that follows the natural terrain along the Yeonggu Chunhwa valley of Hallasan, and at 20 minutes from Jeju Airport it works well for combining a hotel stay with golf. It opened in July 1979, placing it among the oldest courses on Jeju, and it is also the tournament course that hosted the KLPGA Jeju Samdasoo Masters for six consecutive years.

A facility total of 18, 27 or 36 holes describes venue size. Confirm the holes actually booked, the playing course, tee times for each group and the starting format separately.

The character of each course is worth considering too. Lahenne CC puts its winter strength front and center; its signature slogan is that even in midwinter, when heavy snow blankets everything, rounds still get underway at Lahenne. That said, it is described as beautiful but a very difficult course, so it is better placed on a day when you still have energy left. Hallasan Country Club sits at 400 m above sea level on the slopes of Hallasan, and the view of Hallasan opens up from every tee box. The layout was given particular attention from the design stage to block midwinter wind and the cold that comes with the terrain, and reviews single out the fresh air on the flanks of Hallasan and the easy access from downtown as its strengths.

Where you stay is decided by how many days you spend at courses in which direction. If you add Tamius Golf Club and Raon Golf Club in the west back to back, it is better to group that stretch separately and cut the distance travelled.

GolfZon County Ora is well placed for combining a hotel stay with golf, so putting it on the arrival or departure day keeps the itinerary connected without changing accommodation. Conversely, if the itinerary centers on the western courses, it is better not to string the long-drive days together.

Seasonal conditions factor into lodging planning as well. Raon Golf Club highlights being least affected by snow, fog and wind and having fewer closure days, and Lahenne CC highlights winter rounds. Tamius Golf Club, on the other hand, presents scenery where sky and earth, water and forest, sunlight and wind come together, while also mentioning winter gales and fog.
