Five Golf Courses in Western Jeju: Drive Times from the Airport

캐슬렉스제주 전경

From Jeju International Airport, the golf courses in the western part of the island are between about 35 and about 55 minutes away by car. Even grouped together as "west," they differ by 20 minutes, and those 20 minutes decide whether you can slot in a round on arrival day. We have organised five courses — Raon, Castlex, Tamious, Teddy Valley and Pinx — by drive time and hole count.

An overview of drive times to western Jeju golf courses

Jeju International Airport sits on the north side of the island. The golf courses in the west are scattered across Hangyeong-myeon and Aewol-eup in Jeju City and Andeok-myeon in Seogwipo City, and are reachable in about 35 to about 55 minutes by car from the airport. The numbers look like a narrow band, but the gap between the nearest and the furthest is 20 minutes. Round trip, that is 40 minutes — hard to ignore when you are planning arrival day.

This article compares the five courses by hole count and by drive time from the airport. It does not rank the courses; it only covers which are close to the airport and which are far, and where that difference comes from. For anyone drawing up an itinerary, those two things are usually what matter.

The five are Raon Golf Club, Castlex Jeju Golf Club, Tamious Golf Club, Teddy Valley Golf & Resort and Pinx GC. Teddy Valley has 18 holes; the other four are laid out with 27.

Drive times from the airport to the five western courses

Here is each course's location and drive time from the airport, one by one.

Tamious Golf Club is at 201 Hwajeon-gil, Aewol-eup, Jeju City (San 5, Bongseong-ri), about 35 minutes from the airport by car. It is a mid-mountain course at an elevation of 400m, with bentgrass turf. It presents itself on scenery in which sky and earth, water and forest, sunlight and wind come together, and reviews describe a course filled with the scent of cedar. That said, there are also mentions of strong winter winds and fog, so it is fairly exposed to wind.

Teddy Valley Golf & Resort is at 365 Hanchang-ro, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo City, about 35 minutes from the airport by car. It has 18 holes, and at a low average elevation of 190m it sees little effect from fog, wind or rain, allowing rounds year-round. Sitting beside Pyeonghwa-ro, it points to its access — 30 minutes from Jeju Airport and 7 minutes from Jungmun — as a strength. The turf is Bermuda grass, overseeded with ryegrass in winter. It is a host venue for the KPGA Tour Championship final event, to be held in Jeju on 8 November 2026, and has a record of alternating as host with Cypress.

Castlex Jeju Golf Club is at 1241 Pyeonghwa-ro, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo City, about 40 minutes from the airport by car. It opened in 1995 and its position takes in both Hallasan and the sea at Hallim at a glance. It was the first course in Korea to host the Samsung World Championship, an official LPGA tour event. It sits at an elevation of 400m and uses Korean lawngrass. The stone walls and camellia landscaping at the entrance are well known and become a photo spot from December to February.

Raon Golf Club is at 998 Yonggeum-ro, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju City, about 45 minutes from the airport by car. Lying low at an elevation of 130 to 180m and holding an annual average of 18 to 20°C, it puts forward as its signature strength that it is the least affected by snow, fog and wind and has few closure days. The MBC Raon Construction Invitational, held to mark its opening in October 2004, drew Tiger Woods, Colin Montgomerie, Choi Kyoung-ju and Pak Se-ri.

Pinx GC is at 863 Sallongnam-ro, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo City (former address: San 62-3, Sangcheon-ri, Andeok-myeon), about 55 minutes from the airport by car. It is the furthest of the five from the airport, but in return it is the highest, at an elevation of 450m. It was the final design by the late course designer Theodore Robinson, who designed more than 160 courses worldwide, and in 2005 it became the first course in Korea named among the world's top 100 by Golf Digest in the United States and Golf World in Britain. The turf is cool-season grass, and the open-air hot spring inside the clubhouse is Korea's only lagonite hot spring, drawn up from 2,001m underground and rich in minerals.

Why drive times differ even within the same region

Put the five on a map and "west" becomes a hard single word to group them under. Tamious is in Aewol-eup, Jeju City; Raon is in Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju City; Castlex, Teddy Valley and Pinx are in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo City. That is three administrative districts, and from the airport the route splits between heading west and heading down to the southwest.

Elevation moves along with drive time too. Teddy Valley at 190m and Raon at 180m are close to low ground, while Tamious and Castlex are at 400m and Pinx at 450m. The higher the elevation, the more climbing up the mountain slopes is added to the drive. Pinx being the longest at about 55 minutes is not unrelated to where it sits.

The road axis makes a difference as well. Castlex has its address on Pyeonghwa-ro, and Teddy Valley also cites its position beside Pyeonghwa-ro as the basis for its access. Even within the same Andeok-myeon, a course right on Pyeonghwa-ro and one set back along Sallongnam-ro have different drive times.

Differences in elevation carry over into course conditions, not just drive times. Raon, low-lying at 130 to 180m and holding an annual average of 18 to 20°C, cites as a strength that it is the least affected by snow, fog and wind and has few closure days. Teddy Valley likewise explains that its average elevation of 190m means little effect from fog, wind or rain. Conversely, Tamious at an elevation of 400m has mentions of strong winter winds and fog, so it is fairly exposed to wind. For a winter itinerary, it is better to look at drive time and elevation together.

What to go by when adding a round on arrival day

A round on arrival day is worked out from the flight's arrival time, the trip from the airport to the course, and the time left over. Of these, the only one this article can state definitively is the middle item. Tamious and Teddy Valley at about 35 minutes by car from the airport and Pinx at about 55 minutes differ by 20 minutes in departure time.

Hole count is a variable too. Planning works differently for Raon, Castlex, Tamious and Pinx with their 27-hole layouts than for Teddy Valley with 18. Whether to add a short round on arrival day and take a long main round the next day, or the other way round, is simplest to decide with hole count and drive time in front of you together.

For a winter itinerary, look at elevation first. Raon and Teddy Valley, both low-lying, put forward that they are little affected by the weather, while at Castlex the stone walls and camellia landscaping at the entrance become a photo spot from December to February. If you are fitting non-golf plans into a winter trip, this is worth considering too.

Rather than locking in flights first on the assumption of an arrival-day tee time, it is safer to check the schedule against them at the enquiry stage.

What is not included in a quote, and what to check yourself

What this article sets down is location, hole count, elevation, turf and drive time from the airport. Other conditions are not covered here.

Fee items and operating hours fall outside the scope of this article, so please check them at the enquiry stage. We do not guarantee a booking. We do not guarantee the lowest price.

Drive times are figures based on travelling by car. They can change with road conditions on the day, so it is better to build some slack into the schedule.
