Five Golf Courses on Jeju's East Side, Compared by Location and Elevation

부영 CC 전경

Jeju's east side is dotted with courses of differing character, from Jocheon-eup and Gujwa-eup to Pyoseon-myeon and Namwon-eup. We have organized five of them by travel time from the airport, elevation and turf type.

First, location and travel time

Even grouped together as east Jeju, the actual locations are split between Jocheon-eup and Gujwa-eup in Jeju City and Pyoseon-myeon and Namwon-eup in Seogwipo City. In order of proximity to the airport, Greenfield Country Club and Crown Country Club are about a 30-minute drive, Ananti about 45 minutes, and Booyoung Country Club and Cypress Golf & Resort about 50 minutes.

If your schedule calls for fitting in a round on the afternoon you arrive, the two courses in the 30-minute range from the airport are the easy ones to plan around. Conversely, if you are staying in the southeast, the Pyoseon-myeon and Namwon-eup courses fit that route.

  • Greenfield Country Club — Jocheon-eup, Jeju City, about 30 minutes from the airport
  • Crown Country Club — Jocheon-eup, Jeju City, about 30 minutes from the airport
  • Ananti — Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, about 45 minutes from the airport
  • Booyoung Country Club — Namwon-eup, Seogwipo City, about 50 minutes from the airport
  • Cypress Golf & Resort — Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo City, about 50 minutes from the airport

The difference elevation makes

The five courses spread across elevations of 60 m at Crown, 160 m at Ananti, 300 m at Booyoung and Cypress, and 400 m at Greenfield. That is why conditions differ even within the same island.

Crown Country Club sits at the lowest elevation of any golf course on Jeju. Its basin terrain next to the sea means little wind influence, and even heavy winter snow melts within a few hours, so closures due to snow are rare. It is presented as a mecca of winter golf where rounds are possible year-round, and it is cited as a course with a high number of open days on Jeju.

Ananti sits on low ground at 50–160 m above sea level and forms Korea's only four-season natural evergreen forest belt, which brings warmth in winter and cool air in summer. It maintains an annual average temperature of 15.5°C and is barely affected by snow, wind or fog.

Booyoung Country Club is in Jeju's mid-mountain area, so it is relatively little affected by wind, snow, fog and rain. Greenfield Country Club sits at an elevation above 400 m yet is within the Jeju City area, so access is good.

Course size and turf

Cypress Golf & Resort has the most holes at 36, Booyoung, Crown and Ananti have 27 each, and Greenfield has 18. If you have a large group and need simultaneous tee-offs, courses of 27 holes or more leave more room in the arrangement.

Turf differs from course to course. Cypress uses bentgrass, and Greenfield and Crown use cool-season grass. Booyoung is a mixed type with Korean lawngrass fairways and cool-season grass on the tees, rough and greens, while Ananti is divided into cool-season grass at Halla and Korean lawngrass at Gimnyeong.

  • Cypress Golf & Resort — 36 holes, bentgrass, elevation 300 m
  • Booyoung Country Club — 27 holes, Korean lawngrass fairways + cool-season grass tees, rough and greens, elevation 300 m
  • Crown Country Club — 27 holes, cool-season grass, elevation 60 m
  • Ananti — 27 holes, Halla cool-season grass / Gimnyeong Korean lawngrass, elevation 160 m
  • Greenfield Country Club — 18 holes, cool-season grass, elevation 400 m

How the courses differ in character

Cypress Golf & Resort was built on an eco-friendly principle of not damaging nature. The space between holes is vast, so the holes are thoroughly independent of one another to the point that no two are alike, and it is a challenging course where the green is visible at a glance from the teeing ground on most holes. It was named one of Korea's 10 best public golf courses in 2022, and in 2023 it made the TOP 20 eco-friendly golf courses and the shortlist for the 10 best golf courses; in 2024 it hosted the final event of the KPGA Tour Championship.

Greenfield Country Club is a hilltop course with views taking in the cityscape, the sea and Mount Halla together. Its concept is a nature-friendly course that preserves the natural environment as it is, including native Jeju broadleaf trees, stone walls and dry streambeds. The 18-hole membership designation still appears, but it currently operates as a non-membership course.

Booyoung Country Club is a 27-hole nature-friendly course with views of numerous parasitic volcanic cones, Mount Halla and the sea. As the phrase "the golf course on Namjo-ro loved by the citizens of Seogwipo" suggests, islanders and local golfers make up a high share of play, and it is said to have reasonable rates and frequent events.

What to go by when planning a schedule

For a winter trip, it is safer to build the plan around low-lying courses that are less affected by snow and wind. Crown and Ananti fall into this category.

If views are the priority, go with a high-elevation course; if you want difficulty and variety in hole design, choose a course that emphasizes independence between holes. For two or three rounds over three days and two nights, mixing one course in the 30-minute range from the airport with one on the southeast side reduces the travel burden.

Who this is for

  • Groups for whom travel time from the airport matters because a round has to be squeezed into the arrival or departure day
  • Those planning a winter round on Jeju and looking for a course less affected by snow and wind
  • Large groups that need simultaneous tee-offs and require a course of 27 holes or more
  • Those who have not yet decided whether to stay in Jocheon-eup, Gujwa-eup, Pyoseon-myeon or Namwon-eup
