Before booking Hallasan's Seongpanak or Gwaneumsa trail, check these with your group

Trail reservations for Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa open at 9:00 a.m. on the first business day of each month for the following month. The points below are drawn from material provided by Hallasan National Park; items that the material does not settle, such as seasonal entry times or whether a trail is open on the day, are noted separately.

When reservations open, and the steps that do not end there

Trail reservations for Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa open at 9:00 a.m. on the first business day of each month for the following month. If you are going with others, it is better to decide beforehand who will log in and which date you are aiming for.

Securing a slot does not mean the process is over. If the personal details required for the reservation are not entered by the deadline and the reservation is therefore not completed, it is cancelled one day after it was made. In other words, if the day you book and the day you finish entering the details are far apart, the reservation can be cancelled in between.

Once the reservation is completed, check the QR code. The booker's own check and each companion's detail entry and QR check have to be handled separately. It is safer to work out in advance which parts one person can finish on behalf of everyone and which parts each person has to do.

When the make-up of your group changes

There is no separate waiting-list application. Since there is no mechanism for waiting until a slot opens up, it is hard to recommend planning your schedule on the assumption that your numbers may grow.

Conversely, if some of your group can no longer go, confirm the cancellation for those people before the reservation closing time. The larger the group, the better it is to build in a step that confirms who is coming a few days before departure.

  • Decide who will handle logging in and booking, and who will enter their own details
  • Share the deadline for entering details after booking with everyone in the group
  • If your numbers change, confirm the cancellation before the reservation closing time
  • Check that everyone has their QR code before setting out

What this material does not settle

Seasonal entry times, the maximum number of people per reservation, and the weather and opening status on the day are not settled by the material we checked. Nothing in this article means that a reservation can be made or that entry to the mountain will happen. Those items need to be checked again in the official guidance, both before and after booking.

When you are fitting a hike into a group itinerary, these unsettled items are the biggest variable. If everyone in the party is moving on the same day along the same course, it is better to also decide on an alternative plan for the case where the hike does not go ahead.

When tying it to the same dates as a golf itinerary

If you are putting a round and a hike into the same trip, trail reservations open at a fixed moment — 9:00 a.m. on the first business day of each month — while the round is arranged separately. Because the two are confirmed at different times, things get tangled less if you decide which one to lock in first and then fit the other around it.

Choosing a course and putting the itinerary together usually goes faster if they are handled together at the enquiry stage. Specific prices vary with the itinerary, the group size and the arrangements.

What to do next

Decide on candidate dates for the hike first, then use those dates as the basis for working out how to arrange the round and the transfers together at the enquiry stage. The trail reservation itself has to be made by each person through the official channel, and neither the availability of a reservation nor entry to the mountain is guaranteed.
